I Love Money

Slept too much in the day since there were no urgent projects, so ended up couldn't sleep at night. It's a vicious cycle: daytime sleep too much, nighttime not sleepy. Nighttime don't sleep, daytime want to sleep even more.

Earlier in the evening an online friend wrote an argumentative essay about money, it was a well written one and it reminded me of my Literature classes when I was in Lower Secondary School. Literature has never been my strength, I used to keep failing my Literature and Geography, so I took only History for my O Levels.

Still, there is a poem which my best friend Terrence Hong Bing Quan wrote in the years 1994-95 which rings in my head till this very day. I memorised it because it was very meaningful to me since I was quite a pauper during my school days. The poem went like this:

I love money
It's as sweet as honey
It's always sunny
In a rich man's world

So I have to strive
I have to go
To Las Vegas on Ford
And win a fortune in a game
My life would never be the same

I love money
It's as sweet as honey
It's always sunny
In a rich man's world.

This simple poem gave me strength to scrimp and save during my darkest moments when I was juggling mental illness and employment. During the years 2012-19, I totally couldn't find a proper job that paid me a salary because of my depression and bipolar diagnosis, it was really bad and I really was struggling to cope.

Even though I am still poor, at least I have enough to get by in life these few years so I've more or less exited from the abyss. Still, I remember fervently how stressful poverty was during my 30+ years old days, and I express gratitude for each day that I managed to get by in life.

I count my blessings that my parents and elders are well and happy, because touch wood, things could have been even worse if they fell sick, so I appreciate the blessings from the Higher Beings.

They say, "A grateful person is a happy person." I firmly believe in it, and I give thanks. No complaints on my end even though I'm slightly sleepless tonight. I can hardly wait for the sun to rise and I'd go downstairs at around 5:45am for my simple breakfast. Life is good to me and us.
